30th British Superkart Grand Prix

The 30th British Kart Grand Prix was held at the Cadwell Park circuit over the weekend of the 17th / 18th July. The GP included the 2010 MSA Superkarts Championship and other class national championships. With a bumper entry the championship races were split in to 3 groups with each driver racing in 2 of the 3 races on the Saturday with The Grand Prix for all Long Circuit classes on the Sunday.

MSA British Superkart Championship

Qualifying.

Jason Dredge and James O’Reilly were the only 2 drivers down in the 1 minute 26 second area 1:26.01 and 1:26.92 respectively . Again we would see one of the new drivers to the championship in the top 4 in timed qualifying. Adam Underhill from Poole put in a 1:28.19 just behind Paul Platt on a 1:27.39.

 

Race 1

Both Dredge and O’Reilly were in race one so we know the pace was going to be quick.  Both drivers were doing the same lap times are qualifying. O’Reilly lead from lights to flag with Dredge by just over 2 seconds behind. Adam Underhill another 14 seconds behind with the pack on his tail. Mark Allen was 6th. This was Mark’s 30th GP.

Race 2

O’Reilly would start on Pole with Paul Platt next to him. O’Reilly lead for the first 2 laps. On lap 3 he had dropped down to 4th with Platt leading with Sam Moss in 2nd and Malcolm Clarke in 3rd.  O’Reilly managed to regain 3rd place by the flag.

Race 3

Platt lead the pack up in to Coppice and out of sight. Dredge, Moss, Underhill and Dan Clarke in tow.  The Northern Irish driver Richard Dewart was in back in 7th. Richard was also driving in the 250 Div 1 race. Dredge disappeared on lap 3. This gave Platt a 2 second lard from Moss. Back in the pack the racing was close and places were being traded on each lap. By the last lap Platt and Moss were only 1 second apart. But out of sight Platt pulled off and Moss brought home the pack. The Lady of the class started 8th drove a fantastic race up to 5th.
